However, if you are not new to exercise then you have a pretty good idea of what exercise equipment you will need. It would be a waste of money if you purchased cardio equipment, such as, an exercise bike, a treadmill, or any other cardio machine if you like to do you cardio outside, no matter what the weather. How to Select the Right Home Workout Equipment

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

As easy as it seems, purchasing home fitness machines that you won’t regret later takes a good deal of consideration and thought. Here are the factors that really matter when making a purchase:

Check out an amazing way to lose your fat here!

Consider Your Goal

The goals you wish to accomplish and your current fitness level determine which type of workout equipment is correct for you and how much money you need to spend for it. So before determining which treadmill, elliptical trainer or other piece of fitness machine is right for you, ask yourself, “What do I want to achieve?”  Are you looking for an energy boost? Do you want to do resistance training? Do you wish to do cardio?  These questions, when answered right away should help lead you in the right direction, whether or not you want to do resistance training or cardio training, or both.

Weight Loss Tips

Set a Spending Limit

The second most important thing you need to determine is how much you can afford to spend on a whatever piece of fitness equipment you have decided is right for you. Different types of fitness machines have varying costs. A good treadmill costs from $1000 to $3500, and on the very low end, $600. Elliptical trainers prices range anywhere from $200 to $5000. The prices of stationary bikes range anywhere from $150 and $1500 at the high end. You still “you get what you pay for” here so  make sure that you strike a balance between affordability, features and usability.

Note: Just because you can charge a $1000 elliptical trainer or a $3000 treadmill does not mean that you can afford it. You don’t want excess debt as a stressful reason to overeat and wipe out your workout gains. Determine exactly how much you can realistically afford to spend on the fitness equipment before you go to the store and become mesmerized by shiny new machines.

Determine the Total Cost

Transportation, installation, shipping and other extra charges can really add up. Before buying a machine, make sure that you take note of all these charges so that you won’t blow your budget at the last minute.

Space

Besides your goals and budget, the other two most important things to remember when purchasing fitness equipment are to remember to test the machine and measure the size of the machine and the area that you are placing the equipment in. While the former is somewhat automatic, the latter is often overlooked, because when you are at the store, it is difficult to determine if the equipment will actually fit into your available space. Consider how much space is needed for your machine.

If you have a whole room available to convert to a home workout room, it makes sense to get one machine that you can do total body strength training with, and a separate piece of full body cardio equipment. f you only have a small corner of your living room available to convert to a gym, then you can decide which fitness goal is more important to you.

Comparison Shop

A wise buyer doesn’t settle on just one store. Compare prices of the same equipment at at least two stores. It also pays to do online ahead of time so that you are armed with the right information about the particular machine you are looking at. Study product reviews whenever they are available, just doing a google search for ‘elliptical reviews’ yields a ton of information.

Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware)

An unscrupulous salesperson with do anything to make a sale. If you see TV ads promising that you can drop 10 pounds, lose several inches off your waist and be a whole new you in only two minutes a day, don’t fall for it. Yes, these promises are definitely too good to be true. Quick-fix products with “before” and “after” testimonials may be attractive but remember this: bodies do not change radically after small a number of sessions. If they did, everyone who wanted to lose weight or have six-pack abs would already have them already. Have cellulite?  Click here to find out how to get rid of it.

Chin-Up Bar Safety

Sunday, July 12th, 2009

The chin-up is an exercise for strengthening the back muscles and a number of other supporting muscle groups. A chin up exercise involves starting with the body hanging from the chinning bar with extended arms above the head, and by utilising various muscles the body is raised such that the chin is able to reach above the height of the chinning bar. As the chin up has this starting position, there is a need to use a horizontal bar of some description, known as a chin up bar, although often also called a chinning bar, which is capable of supporting your body weight whilst you perform the exercise. Your own gym is going to provide the correct chin up bars for the exercise, but what if you’re a new gym user who hasn’t mastered a technique yet? In order to save yourself some embarrassment due to the openness of such an activity, you may want to try and master the technique at home first.

You should be cautious of attempting to do chin-ups using any old horizontal bar or beam that you may have access to at home or at work though, as it may not be strong enough to hold your weight during the exercise. Don’t be fooled by its ability to hold you up whilst you hang motionless, as the strain on the supporting bar greatly increases due to the downward force of your weight at the end of the chin-up. This is especially relevant as you get more proficient at the chin up as your number of reps will increase as well as the speed at which you do them, putting more and more stress on the chin up itself.

There are a numerous chin up bars for home use on the market that are more than adequate for the job. However, you must always make sure that you follow the guidelines carefully when installing, as a mistake here could cause your chin up bar to come away from the wall or door frame where you have chosen to install it.

The most common reason for not finishing exercise routines is injury. If you start out with safety in mind, you are more likely to complete the workout and therefore achieve maximum benefit.
