Exercise Bikes

by S.G.R.B

When you decide to purchase an exercise bike, you
should first find a place in your home where you
can place it.  Then, you’ll need to think about
whether or not you want an upright exercise bike, a
semi recumbent bike, or a recumbent exercise bike.

Once you have made the decision of which type of
bike you want, check out the reviews that are
available in bike magazines and also on the internet.
You can also take the advice of family and friends
who are currently using the same as well as
personal trainers who have experience.  The reviews
on exercise bikes are normally rates in accordance
to their performance, functions that they have, as
well as the type of material that is used for
constructing the exercise bikes.

The exercise bike that you select should be very
comfortable to sit on and the seat should be easy
to adjust, as it otherwise it would be really hard
to cycle on.  If the height of the seat is wrong,
it can put a lot of pressure in your lower area,
specifically the groin.  To find out more about
these types of features, it is very important
that you read a review as the reviews can give
you valuable information about the features
of exercise bikes.

Reviews have other advantages as well.  A lot
of times, websites on the internet will offer
special discounts on the exercise bikes as well,
which is just another benefit to reading the
reviews.  After you have read the reviews,
you’ll be able to negotiate for a better price
once you talk to the sales person.

No matter how you look at it, you really can’t
go wrong with reading a review on exercise bikes.
You can find out anything you want to know, as
well as get opinions from those who already
own the equipment.  A majority of the time,
you can find out flaws as well, which can save
you a lot of time and effort.

Going to local gyms is also a great way to
find out about exercise bikes.  If you don’t
want to buy one or if you don’t have the space
to keep one at home, you can always join a local
gym and use one there.  There are several
different types available at your local gym,
with everything from standard exercise bikes to
the newer electronic versions.

Whether you choose to buy on for home use or
use one at the gym, an exercise bike can help
you stay in shape.  All you need to do is ride
it a few minutes a day, and you’ll be amazed
at just how much it helps you.  Considered to
be a part of cardio, an exercise bike can help
you lose weight and tone your body down like
never before.

Free Weights VS Machine exercise

by S.G.R.B

Something you need to keep in mind and never forget
is that when you exercise, you are training for
life.  You still may spend an hour a day in the
gym, although that will still leave another 23 hours
or so for your muscles to function without using
any fancy equipment.

Whenever you do any type of exercise, the movement
of your body during the exercise is known as the
range of motion.  The more difficult the range of
motion is, the more effective the exercise will be,
because your body has to work twice as hard to
perform the movement.

Take for the instance the classic dumbbell bicep
curl.  If you aren’t familiar with the exercise,
it is performed by standing up straight with your
palms facing forward, and a pair of dumbbells held
down by your sides.  You’ll contract your biceps
to bring the dumbbells up to your shoulder height,
then repeat the exercise as many times as you wish.

Using that same movement for exercise on a bicep
curl machine, you should sit down, brace your
upper arms on a pad, grasp 2 handles that are in
front of you, then perform the same movement as
above to move the handles in an upward motion.

Now, looking at the muscle contractions in this
exercise, you are contracting essentially your
biceps if you are using the curl machine, and
that is pretty much all you are doing.  When you
use the machine you are sitting down, which will
limit just how much your shoulders give.  The
machine has several muscles used in this
exercise limited to the biceps, as well as
the muscles in your forearms and fingers.

Most of the time, when using machine weights, you
will always be limited as to what type of exercise
you can perform.  You must always follow a strict
procedure, which is pretty much the same with
free weights.  Unlike free weights, machine
weights offer a certain degree of resistance.

One of the best thing about free weights is the
fact that you move a little chuck around to
select the weight you want to use.  Instead
of dragging it over to your exercise area,
you simply select it on the machine.  When
you are tired during a workout, this can be
a blessing.

A lot of people argue in the fact that free
weights are the best for your body.  While this
is normally true, many people out there feel that
machine weights are the best.  There are pros
and cons with both machines, although free
weights have been around a lot longer and have
been proven time after time to achieve dramatic
results.

Body builders for example, have used free
weights over the years to build very impressive
bodies.  If you ask most of them about machine
weights, they would probably laugh at you and
tell you that you need to quit joking around.

In a nutshell, free weights will use more of your
muscles than the machines do, which makes them
more effective overall.  This doesn’t mean
that the machines are a waste of use, as they
offer some great advantages.  In some cases,
it is best to stabilize the muscles that are
being used in a movement, which is where machines
are the best to use.

The decision on which to use for you should be
based on what you hope to achieve with lifting
weights and where you plan to use the equipment,
such as home or at a gym.  Both systems are
great for your body, although the free weights
are best to use if you want the best possible
workout, and always ensure that your muscles
are getting the right workouts they need.

Exercise And Asthma

by S.G.R.B

If you suffer from asthma, you probably think that you
can’t exercise properly or safely.  Contrary to what
many think of this subject, there are ways that you
can get in shape and exercise, even if you suffer
from asthma.

Asthma is a chronic lung disease that is marked by
characteristics such as coughing, wheezing, shortness
of breath, and chest tightness.  Asthma tends to occur
with people who are genetically or environmentally
presdisposed to the condition.

Some of the triggers that may start or make an attack
worse include exposure to allergens, viral respiratory
infections, airway irritants, exercise, and exposure
to things such as dust mites or cockroaches.

You can prevent asthma attacks by doing the following:
 1.  Bathe your pets weekly.
 2.  Don’t smoke or permit smoking in your
home.
 3.  When mold or pollent counts are high,
you should stay inside with air conditioning.
 4.  Wash your bedding and any stuffed toys
at least once per week in hot water.
 5.  Wash your hands every chance you get.
 6.  Get a flu shot.
 7.  Wear a scarf over your mouth and nose in
the winter months.
 8.  Be proactive and know your triggers and
how you should avoid them.

Now that you know what you know about asthma, you
may be wondering where exercise fits in.  As most
doctors will tell you, you shouldn’t give up on
sports or exercise at all.  You just have to be
smart about how you play and take special pre
cautions to avoid attacks.

Almost all doctors agree that the best way to
prevent attacks during exercise is to keep your
inhaler and medication close by.  You should never
use the inhaler more than 3 times during a game
or exercise session.  If you are up the previous
night with coughing and wheezing, it’s always best
to go light with your exercise the next day.

For something known as IEA (Exercise Induced Asthma),
the symptoms are somewhat different, in the fact
that they appear after 6 – 10 minutes of exercise
and will often be worse in cold or dry air.

If you have IEA, there are several activities that
you can enjoy such as swimming, walking, biking,
downhill skiing, and team based sports.  There are
many activities for you to choose from, to ensure
you get the exercise you need as well.

Keep in mind that the condition of asthma isn’t
“all in your head”, it is a real physiological
medical treatment that will require treatment to
prevent and treat.  Even though your doctor will
be your best friend in treating asthma, you are
the one who can prevent your symptoms.

Always be smart, take your medication, and be
proactive.  Don’t let it put you in a life of
misery – as you can enjoy exercise just like
everyone else.

Choosing The Right Exercise For You

by S.G.R.B

The type of exercise you do all depends on you and
what you like to do.  What you hate doing, paying
membership fees, and whether or not to buy equipment
are all things you need to consider as well as
answer.

If you choose something that you don’t like to do,
you aren’t going to keep doing it for a long period
of time.  Give it some thought – if you don’t like
jogging, you aren’t going to get up at 6 AM and go
running.  If you can’t find something you like to
do, choose something you hate the least, which will
normally be walking.

Walking is great exercise, as it suits all levels
of fitness.  Anyone can start a walking program at
any time, it’s normally the intensity and duration
that differs.  Walking is also a social exercise,
as it isn’t difficult to find a training partner
to chat with while you exercise.  Walking with a
partner will also make time go by faster.

No matter what exercise you choose, you should
start at a low level of intensity and build it up
over a period of weeks, which is essential to the
longevity of your exercise program.  If you start
off too hard, you could end up with an injury
which will require time off to get over.

If you are really in bad shape, you should start
off by walking for 10 minutes each day.  Then,
increase it by 5 minutes every 2 weeks.  To make
things more interesting, you should try walking
a different course every few days.  You can also
roster a different friend to walk with you each
day of the week.

If walking isn’t your thing, then you may want
to try a fitness center.  They have loads of
variety and normally have trainers on hand to
answer any questions you may have.  When you
choose a fitness center, make sure that they give
good service.

If they aren’t willing to treat you well before
you join, then they certainly won’t after you
join.  You should also make sure that the equipment
they use is well taken care of.  It’s easy to
find out, as all you have to do is listen to the
machines.  If they squeak a lot or make noise,
then chances are they aren’t being taken care of.

If you still aren’t sure what you should do, then
you should look into golf or tennis.  Both are
good social activities in most areas, and you can
even meet new friends.  Tennis is great for fitness
although it isn’t for someone who is just starting
out.  If you haven’t exercised in a long time,
then golf may be the best activity for you.

Cardio Exercise

by S.G.R.B

Everyone has wondered at some point in time which
cardio exercise is better.  To put it in simple
terms, both low and high intensity exercises will
help you to burn off body fat.  The question here
is which is the most effective to burn off more
body fat.

When scientists first discovered that during
intensive exercises, your body burns glycogen, which
is a form of stored carbohydrates that are stored
in your liver and muscles for energy.  During low
intensity exercises, your body will burn a lot of
fat.

If your wondering whether or not it works, the
answer is no because there are so many obese people
still around.  Even though they are working out
with low intensity routines, it still makes you
wonder how it can be.

The scientists were right when they said the human
body burns more body fat during low intensity
exercises like walking or swimming.  During a
high intensity exercise such as running, the body
will burn a lot more calories.  Even if some of
the calories burnt are from glycogen, there are
still many fat calories burned as well.

To put the icing on the cake, when your store of
glycogen gets low, the carbohydrates from your
food you eat will later get converted into
glycogen to fill up the store and won’t be
converted to body fat when they are left unused
for energy.

High intensity cardio exercise will juice up your
metabolism even after you have completed your
workout.  What this means, is that your body will
continue to burn body fat hours after you have
left the gym.  This effect is nearly non existent
in low intensity cardio or aerobic workout.

Accumulatively, your body will burn up more and
more calories during and after you have finished a
high intensity cardio exercise that it will with
low intensity.

You can inject high intensity exercises into your
cardio workout by introducing some interval
training. You can walk for 5 minutes or so, then
break into some jogging for another 5 minutes or
so.  Then, walk briskly again until you have
caught your breath and then sprint for a minute
before you walk again.  From this point, simply
alternate your running and walking for the
next 15 minutes until you are finished.

One of the best things about cardio is the more
you do it, the more energy you’ll have.  Cardio
will help you to burn calories, although its more
useful for keeping your energy levels high.

If you’ve never tried cardio before, you should
give it a shot.  If you like to exercise, you’ll
find cardio the best way to boost your energy and
keep in top shape.  If you are just starting out,
you’ll want to go slow and keep your cardio
exercise in track – as it is very easy to over
exert yourself.

Alcohol And Exercise

by S.G.R.B

On Friday afternoon after you leave work, you probably
think about going out and having a few drinks with
friends to relax and wind down.  Even though you
may think you deserve to go out and have a few drinks,
there are some things that you should certainly keep
in mind.

Like any other day, tomorrow is going to be a day
for exercise, and since you are exercising on a
regular basis, a few drinks of alcohol won’t really
hurt anything, right?  Before you decide to rush out
to the local bar, there are a few things below that
you should think about before you make your choice
about going out to drink some alcohol.

Research has proven that even small amounts of
alcohol with increase muscular endurance and the output
of strength, although these types of benefits are
very short lived.  After 20 minutes or so, the
problems will begin to surface.  All of the negative
side effects associated with alcohol will easily
outweigh any possible benefits that it can have.
No matter how you look at it, alcohol is a poison
that can really harm your body if you aren’t careful.

The negative side of alcohol can reduce your
strength, endurance, aerobic capability, recovery
time, ability to metabolize fat, and even your
muscle growth as well.  Alcohol will also have an
effect on your nervous system and brain.  If you
use it long term, you can cause severe deterioration
of your central nervous system.   Even with short
term use, nerve muscle interaction can be reduced
which will result in a loss of strength.

Once alcohol reaches the blood cells, it can and
probably will damage them.  With alcohol users,
inflammation of the muscle cells is a very common
thing.  Over periods of time, some of these cells
that have been damaged can die which will result
in less functional muscle contractions.  Drinking
alcohol will also leave you with more soreness of
your muscles after you exercise, which means that
it will take you a lot longer to recuperate.

Alcohol will also have many different effects on
your heart and circulatory system as well.  When
you drink any type of alcohol, you may begin to
see a reduction in your endurance capabilities.
Anytime you drink, your heat loss will increase,
due to the alcohol simulating your blood vessels
to dilate.  The loss in heat can cause your
muscles to become quite cold, therefore become
slower and weaker during your muscle contractions.

Drinking alcohol can also lead to digestive and
nutrition problems as well.  Alcohol cause a
release of insulin that will increase the metabolism
of glycogen, which spares fat and makes the loss
of fat very hard.  Due to alcohol interfering
with the absorption of several key nutrients, you
can also become anemic and deficient with B type
vitamins.

Because your liver is the organ that detoxifies
alcohol, the more you drink, the harder your liver
has to work.  The extra stress alcohol places on
your liver can cause serious damage and even
destroy some of your liver cells.

Since alcohol is diuretic, drinking large amounts
can put a lot of stress on your kidneys as well.
During diuretic action, the hormones are secreted.
This can lead to heightened water retention and no
one who exercises will want this to happen.

If you must drink alcohol, you should do it in
moderation and never drink before you exercise, as
this will impair your balance, coordination, and
also your judgement.  Think about your health and
how you exercise – and you may begin to look at
things from a whole new prospective.

Rules to being a Man of Fitness

by S.G.R.B

Be A Man of Fitness

Fitness is the essence of a man. Fitness is the ability of a person to do his normal everyday tasks with full alertness and vigor without worrying about fatigue afterward and with extra energy in reserve which can be useful when emergencies arise or during leisure and recreation. Overall fitness must be the primary goal every man must try to achieve. In fitness, no one is ever too young or too old for improvement. And one of the main things that Men love to get is that ever elusive six pack. Here is one of the programs that you can get to rock hard abs – Beyond Six Pack Abs

One’s fitness can be improved by ngaging in aerobic exercises and through strength training. There are three components of overall fitness that every man must focus on working out in order to be in healthy, tip-top shape. These are cardiovascular work, strength training and of course, these should be takeb with a healthy diet.

Staying strong by building muscles. Man’s fitness regimen should include a work out routine which aims to build the muscles. Aging causes a decrease in muscle mass of five to seven pounds (two-three.2 kgs) of muscle for every ten years in an adults life given that he lives an inactive lifestyle. Truly, the saying "use it or lose it" is more than applicable to the muscles. Fortunately, there is a good solution to this. Loss of muscle mass can be replaced by engaiging in strength training.

Improvement of Man’s fitness by cardiovascular work out. Strength training, Flexibility exercises, and cardiovascular work out surely help boost a man's fitness and all these should be part of a man's work out scheme. But of all these, cardiovascular work is the most necessary. Exercises under cardiovascular work conditions and develops the cardiovascular system and also works out the large muscle groups.

Hence if a man does not have much time for working out, devoting whatever free time he might have to aerobic exercises would do him fine. He might have to pass out on developing those biceps but so long as cardiovascular work out exercises are done, then the blood pressure, heart and cholesterol levels will be fine to keep you staying happy and healthy.

The essence of nutrition to man’s fitness. It is best as well as well recommended to eat whole and natural foods frequently than do it on large amounts in one to three sittings. Always keep variety in mind when doing the shopping. This will ensure that one is getting most if not all of the nutrients and minerals needed by the body to keep fit and healthy. Always keep the three important macronutreints in the diet; these are fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Prioritize proteins though over carbohydrates but never exclude any one of the three on some fad diet.

Some tips in keeping a man’s fitness level high, efficient and safe:

1.) Drink a lot of water all throughout the day, especially when working out.

2.) Do exercises properly using the correct techniques, whether it is weight lifting or aerobic exercises. Always read and understand, and follow of course, the instructions outlined by the personal trainer.

3.) Ensure there is always a spotter when lifting weights.

4.) Challenge the muscles, but make sure that it’s kept safe.

5.) Stretch, warm-up prior to working out and cool-down gradually after sessions.

6.) Check the equipment for safety before using them.

7.) It is better to do less than overdo the whole thing. Overtraining will exhaust enthusiasm and kill performance.

Muscle Building Fiction Guide

by S.G.R.B

If you'v been training, here's a short list of bodybuilding fiction. Once you learn the truth about muscle fiction you will be able to accelerate your muscle building program with the Vince Delmonte Muscle Building Program.

To get a program to overcome the above muscle fiction get a prgraom from the Vince Delmonte No-Nonsense Body Building Program

1. 12 Rep rule

Most weight training programs include this much repetitions for gaining muscle. This approach places the muscles with not enough tension for effective muscle gain. High tension e.g. muscle growth is provided through heavy weights in which the muscle grows much larger, leading to the maximum gains in strength. Having longer tension time boosts the muscle size by generating the structures around the muscle fibers, improving endurance.

By just using the program of the standard 8 to 12 repititions all of the time, you do not generate the greater tension levels that is provided by the heavier weights and lesser reps, and the longer tension achieved with lighter weights and more repetitions. To stimulate all types of muscle growth; change the number of reps and adjust the weights to stimulate all types of muscle growth.

2. Three Set rule

The truth is there’s nothing wrong with three sets but then again there is nothing amazing about it either. The number of sets you perform should be based on your goals; not on a half-century old rule. The more repetitions you do on an exercise, the fewer sets you should do, and vice versa. The total number of repetitions done of an is kept exercise equal.

3. Three to four exercises per group

The truth is this is a waste of time. Combined with 12 reps of three sets, the total number of reps amount to 144. If your doing this much reps for a muscle group you are not doing enough. Limit doing too many varieties of exercises, try doing 30 to 50 reps. That can be anywhere from 5 set of 10 reps or 2 sets of 15 reps.

4. My knees, my toes

It is a gym folklore that you “should not let your knees go past your toes." Truth is that leaning forward a little too much is more likely a cause of injury. In 2003, Memphis University researchers confirmed that knee stress was almost thirty percent higher when the knees are allowed to move beyond the toes during a squat.

But hip stress is increased nearly 10 times or (1000 percent) when the forward movement of the knee was restricted. Due to the squatters needing to lean their body forward and that forces the strain to transfer to the lower back.

Focus more on your upper body position and less on the knee. When doing squats and lunges keep the torso in an upright position as much as possible. This means a reduction on the stress generated on the hips and back. To stay upright, before squatting, squeeze the shoulder blades together, hold them in that position; then as you squat, keep the forearms 90 degree to the floor.

5. Lift weights, draw abs

The truth is the muscles work in groups to stabilize the spine, and the most important muscle group change depending on the type of exercise. The transverse abdominis is not always the most important muscle group. Actually, the body automatically activates the muscle group that are needed most for support of the spine, for most exercises. So if you focus only on the transverse abdominis, it can recruit wrong muscles and limit the right muscles. The chance of injury is increased, and reduces the weight that can be lifted.

Drinking more water daily

by S.G.R.B

Drinking more water daily

One of the most irresistible ways for college body builders can stray from their workout routine and healthy diet by drinking.  Most people go into college saying hat they are not going to drink but there are a few that do not go off course. It is hard to say no when you are surrounded by fun and others having a good time.  You want to try your best not to fall into this problem by drinking large amounts of alcohol because this will only cause you to gain weight.  It will also make it harder for you to build muscle mass. You will not want to sacrifice your fun but you will want to make sure that you are responsible at times and stick with water instead of beer.

Try to stay away from the cafeteria foods as well. You should avoid piling on food and trying to find foods that have nutritional foods but has many calories even if you are drinking light beer.  Shots are the same way and just one can put you over the 100 calories and one mixed drink has over 1000.  You should not drink if you have an endomorphic body and are having trouble trying to lose weight.  If does not matter how healthy you are eating during the day if you drink all night long.  Because of the way that beer and other drinks affect the body, you will be able to pack on the pounds that will cause a large beer belly.

Drinking will also mess with your schedule.  If you come home to drink, you will be hangover the next day and you will not want to train.  This is fine if it is a rest day but you will probably want to stay in bed much longer too and you may feel nauseous.  These symptoms are going to cause you to miss meals. If you are drinking the night before, you will be dehydrated and lack the key nutrients that are important.  Missing meals of the day will make you feel worse and make your next training session even more difficult.

There are many other adverse effects of alcohol on your body if you are weight training.  It will lower the testosterone, which is the key player in the amount of muscle mass that you build.  If you are drunk, your inhibitions are also going to be lowered and this will cause you to make decisions that you would not normally make.  This can mean smoking or ordering from a fast food restaurant.  Drinking every once in a while is going to be fine, however if you are doing it all the time or most of the time, you will need to think about getting some help.  Limit yourself in drinking a few drinks or you can always be the designated driver to prevent yourself from lacking in your workout plan.

All About Powerful Thinking

by S.G.R.B

You have to have the right mind set in order to do bodybuilding.  If you are not thinking positively, you will find it easy to become frustrated and it will be easy to drop your exercising routine or to start cheating on your diet.  You need to conquer your state of mind and you will be able to build faster muscles and have a better outlook on life for everything.

The first thing that you need to do is make sure that you are motivated.  Take a minute to think about what you are hoping to accomplish and why you are doing it.  Bodybuilding is a sport in which you can do so you should use this motivation and consider why bodybuilders never aim to be professional.  Instead your goal may be to look and feel better in life.  No matter what your goal is you will motivate yourself by setting smaller goals for yourself from week to week.  You will want to keep a close eye on your activity and your progress as you go.  Keep the end goal for yourself in sight and make sure that you are excited about what you are doing.

Do not get frustrated as the second piece of advice.  Bodybuilding is no doubt one of the most difficult activities that you can do.  Even if you only use this as a hobby, when you do not see results right away its easy to become discouraged and stop.  Do not worry about this.  If you are doing the right exercises and maintaining a good healthy lifestyle, you should be able to see weight loss and muscle gain in a few weeks.  For the beginners, it may be difficult to consult a personal trainer, but he or she can show you some great form and give you good advice.  Taking off the first few pounds or seeing the beginning of a six pack can be a very inspirational fact.

The last thing is to be dedicated.  When you are starting to do bodybuilding, you may soon see that it is not for you.  This is fine.  You can find a more moderate exercise program and stay healthy instead.  If it is problem of dedication, one fixes maybe to get a great workout partner lined up.  If the two of you can keep an eye on each other, you will have a good motivation and be less likely to back out on your hard work and diet.

No matter what you should be happy.  If you find that the workouts are starting to stress you out, you may want to rethink your decision to begin bodybuilding.  With some motivation, inspiration, and dedication, you will be able to see the results that you want in the gym.  You can use your workout time as a positive factor in your life and in your exercise plan.  You will be able to start feeling better about your health and looking better too.
